How much do French public universities charge Indian students?
France sets one national tuition rate for non-EU students at public universities. For 2026–27 the rates published by Campus France are:
| Level | Fee per year (2026–27) | Illustrative in ₹* |
|---|---|---|
| Licence (bachelor's) | €2,902 | about ₹2.9 lakh |
| Master's | €3,950 | about ₹4.0 lakh |
| Doctorate | €398 | about ₹40,000 |
*Illustrative only, at ₹100 per euro. Use the day's exchange rate when you budget. A master's in France normally runs 2 years.
Some engineering schools run by other ministries set their own fees, and a few groups, such as long-term residents, pay the French rate. Most Indian students pay the national rate above, so check the specific school's fee page before you apply.
What do private and business schools charge?
Campus France notes that private institutions, especially business schools, generally charge about €6,000 to €18,000 or more per year. The gap with public universities is large, so compare the programme, rankings and internship support, not just the fee.
| Type | Typical yearly tuition | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Public university | €3,950 (master's) | Fixed national rate for non-EU students |
| Engineering school under another ministry | Set by the school | Check each school's own fee page |
| Private or business school | €6,000–18,000+ | Higher fees, often stronger employer links |
How much money must I show for a French student visa?
From 1 August 2026 the minimum financial resources for a long-stay student visa rose to €877.50 per month, up from €615. You can show savings, a guarantor, a scholarship or other accepted documents.

- Older websites and agent brochures still quote €615. That figure is out of date for new applications.
- Indian applicants usually register through Campus France India before the visa appointment. Start early, because document checks take time.
