The IELTS exam fee in India is ₹19,000 for IELTS Academic and General Training in 2026, according to IDP IELTS India. IELTS for UKVI costs ₹19,250, IELTS Life Skills ₹18,000 and a One Skill Retake ₹12,650. You can move your test date free of charge up to 15 days before the test; closer to the date, an administration fee of up to 25% applies.

The fee is the same in every Indian city, including Hyderabad. IELTS in India is booked through IDP IELTS India, online or at an IDP branch.
Which IELTS should I book?
- Going to university abroad: book IELTS Academic, unless your university or visa route asks for something else.
- UK student visa: most degree-level students meet the English requirement through their university, so a standard IELTS Academic is usually enough. Book IELTS for UKVI only if your university or visa route asks for a Secure English Language Test.

Can I change my IELTS date or get a refund?
For IELTS on computer, IELTS with writing on paper and One Skill Retake, IDP IELTS India's rules are:

How do I avoid paying the IELTS fee twice?
- Book only when you're scoring your target in full mock tests, not after a few practice papers.
- Use a One Skill Retake if you missed your target in just one section; at ₹12,650 it costs less than a full retest.
- Leave a buffer before deadlines. Results take time, and a retake needs a new booking.
- Check whether you need IELTS at all. Many universities accept an English medium of instruction letter, PTE or Duolingo.
