Which overseas scholarships does Telangana offer?

The Telangana ePASS portal lists four overseas scholarship schemes. All pay the same maximum grant; they differ by community and by the department that runs them.

The grant is up to ₹20 lakh or the amount in your admission letter, whichever is less. Source: Telangana ePASS overseas scholarship page, checked 23 October 2026.

When we checked on 23 October 2026, the portal showed registration open for the BC and EBC scheme (MJPOVN) with a last date of 31 October 2026. Registrations for the SC and minority schemes were shown as closed. Windows open and close through the year, so check the portal before you plan.

Who is eligible?

The portal lists these common conditions for all four schemes. The full rules sit in each scheme's Government Order (G.O.), linked from the portal.

  • Family income: less than ₹5 lakh a year from all sources, counting the student and parents.
  • Marks: at least 60% in graduation.
  • Tests: a valid GRE or GMAT score and an English test score (TOEFL, IELTS or PTE), as set out in the G.O. The ST scheme lists GRE 260, GMAT 500, TOEFL 60, IELTS 6.0 or PTE 50.
  • One child per family can receive the scholarship.
  • Admission: an admission to an eligible postgraduate programme abroad. For the BC/EBC scheme, the portal says only students who already hold a CoE or I-20 and a visa may register.
  • Age: the age limit is set in each scheme's G.O. Check it there before you apply.

For the BC/EBC scheme, the merit list weights graduation marks at 60%, GRE or GMAT at 20% and TOEFL, IELTS or PTE at 20%. The portal notes that students need any two of these test scores to appear in the merit list, even if their university doesn't require them.

Which countries are covered?

All four schemes list the same 10 countries:

Approved countries
USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand
Germany, France, Singapore, Japan, South Korea

Ireland, the Netherlands and Dubai are not on the list. If you plan to use this scholarship, choose a university in one of these 10 countries.

How do I apply on ePASS?

  • Get your admission first. You need an offer from an eligible university, and for the BC/EBC scheme your CoE or I-20 and visa.
  • Keep your documents ready: income certificate, caste or community certificate, graduation marks memo, GRE/GMAT and English test scorecards, admission letter, passport and visa, and Aadhaar.
  • Register on telanganaepass.cgg.gov.in under Overseas Scholarship Services, choosing your scheme. Print the application after you submit.
  • Certificate verification: shortlisted students attend document verification on the dates the department announces.
  • Selection: a state-level selection committee publishes the selected and merit lists on the portal.
  • After selection: the department asks for utilisation certificates through the portal, so keep every fee receipt.

What do we tell Telangana students?

  • Take the GRE and an English test early. The merit list counts them even when your university waives them.
  • Plan the loan and the scholarship together. The grant usually arrives after you start, so most students still need an education loan or savings for the first fees and the visa funds.
  • Check the income certificate date. An outdated certificate is a common reason for delays.
  • Pick an eligible country. A strong offer in Ireland or the Netherlands won't qualify for this scheme.
